Speed limits are generally 55 mph to 75mph on highways. Within the city speed limits are 25 to 45 mph. There are speed traps on major highways - and if you are driving from Farmington to Durango - watch out in Aztec! Make sure you follow the speed limit, even through the construction areas, there is always a speed trap and they love getting out-of-state drivers.

Road construction between Farmington and Albuquerque is completed! It is about a 2 1/4 hour drive from Albuquerque to Farmington on Highway 550 from Bernalillo. It's a dream! If you come in late, stay overnight in Albuquerque (The Holiday Inn or Best Western are really nice and cheap - coupons are on the website). There are not good hotels in between - mostly Indian reservations. Cuba has 1 hotel, but it is really bad (I've stayed there). Plus you really don't want to drive on the reservations at night. Too dark and too many animals.

Farmington is a very safe city. But as in any city, we recommend you keep your cameras, valuables, purses and wallets close to you. Although these incidents are uncommon, it is good practice to be prepared.

FAQ |
"Hi! Could you tell
me where Crouch Mesa is with respect to Farmington? Thanks!" - Kala
It is just 5-8 minutes North, northwest of Farmington. If you go north on hwy550, as you leave Farmington, there are two stoplights. At the second light, which is 3500, turn right. Go till you get to the next light. That is the Crouch Mesa Area. Good luck. |
